I designed this poster to participate in the fifth Baghdad International Film Festival poster design competition. I took into consideration the criteria they requested, including the mandatory use of certain colors and the festival logo, while the overall concept was left open to the creativity of the designers.
I thought carefully before creating the Baghdad International Film Festival poster design and decided to create a complete artistic composition that tells the story of ancient and contemporary Iraq, blended with Iraqi cinema, to deliver a message to everyone attending the festival. The result was an epic image carrying real stories that can be understood through the description of the artwork below.
The festival logo radiates its light and illuminates a visual epic composed of historical, artistic, and cultural stories that reflect the depth, importance, and civilization of the ancient city of Baghdad, which has long been a center of science and culture for the entire world since ancient times. Thus, the festival logo in its fifth edition represents this rich cultural and historical heritage.
Film strips tell us the story of a city called Baghdad, a city that has lived through ancient eras. The cinematic strip begins by embracing the statue of Scheherazade as she tells the stories of One Thousand and One Nights to Shahryar. Her stories have long been an inspiration for international cinema. Both figures are presented in radiant gold to highlight the golden history of this ancient city.
The visual epic portrays different periods and numerous eras from the history of Baghdad through this cinematic strip, which tells us about these periods and delivers the message that cinema in Iraq never died, even under the most difficult circumstances. The strip continues its journey from the statue of Kahramana and the Forty Thieves, representing one of the most beautiful tales from One Thousand and One Nights. It surrounds the entire statue to emphasize the importance of this story and continues its journey to include the statue of Ma’ruf al-Rusafi, who enriched this heritage with great cultural value as a renowned poet representing Baghdad, the capital of culture.
The cinematic strip continues its journey toward the back of Al-Mustansiriya School, entering through the rear gate and emerging from the front gate. It tells us the stories of the students and intellectuals who lived and graduated from one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the Islamic and Arab world.
After that, the difficult and bloody periods experienced by Iraqis throughout different eras begin to appear, represented by the color red in the artwork. The cinematic strip ends its journey beneath the Freedom Monument, beginning a new story that tells us about the suffering of Iraqis during difficult circumstances. The beginning of this new story is the return of sovereignty to Iraqi lands, represented by a convoy of tanks carrying Iraqi flags in the present day. The new story then continues with the reconstruction phase, represented by the Iraq Reconstruction Monument on the left side of the center of the artwork. After that, the statue of Abbas Ibn Firnas restores our confidence in the ability of Iraqis to rebuild once again, as he represents some of the earliest innovations and inventions that influenced the world in various fields.
Thus, doves of peace once again fly over the skies of Baghdad, celebrating the fifth edition of the Baghdad International Film Festival, which served as a true mirror reflecting the history and story of an ancient city whose story has never ended.

Note: It is worth mentioning that the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra documentary film participated in the fifth edition of the Baghdad International Film Festival and received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the festival’s judging committee after winning the Rising Star Award at the Canada International Festival in 2013 and the Silver Award at the California International Festival in the United States in 2012.

قمت بتصميم هذا الملصق للمشاركة في مسابقة تصميم ملصق الدورة الخامسة لمهرجان بغداد السينمائي الدولي. وقد أخذت بعين الاعتبار المعايير التي طلبوها، بما في ذلك الاستخدام الإلزامي لبعض الألوان وشعار المهرجان، بينما تُرك المفهوم العام لإبداع المصممين.
فكرت مليًا قبل إنشاء تصميم ملصق مهرجان بغداد السينمائي الدولي، وقررت أن أصنع تكوينًا فنيًا متكاملًا يروي قصة العراق القديم والمعاصر، ممزوجة بتاريخ السينما العراقية، لإيصال رسالة إلى كل من يحضر المهرجان. وكانت النتيجة صورة ملحمية تحمل قصصًا حقيقية يمكن فهمها من خلال وصف العمل الفني أدناه.
يشع شعار المهرجان بنوره وينير ملحمة بصرية مؤلفة من قصص تاريخية وفنية وثقافية تعكس عمق وأهمية وحضارة مدينة بغداد العريقة، التي كانت منذ القدم مركزًا للعلم والثقافة للعالم بأسره. ولذلك فإن شعار المهرجان في دورته الخامسة يمثل هذا التراث الثقافي والتاريخي الغني.
تحكي أشرطة الأفلام لنا قصة مدينة تُدعى بغداد، مدينة عاشت عصورًا قديمة. يبدأ الشريط السينمائي باحتضان تمثال شهرزاد وهي تروي قصص ألف ليلة وليلة لشهريار. وقد كانت قصصها منذ زمن طويل مصدر إلهام للسينما العالمية. ويظهر كلا الشخصيتين بلون ذهبي مشرق لإبراز التاريخ الذهبي لهذه المدينة العريقة.
تصور الملحمة البصرية فترات مختلفة وعصورًا عديدة من تاريخ بغداد من خلال هذا الشريط السينمائي، الذي يخبرنا عن هذه الفترات ويوصل رسالة مفادها أن السينما في العراق لم تمت، حتى في ظل أصعب الظروف. ويواصل الشريط رحلته من تمثال كهرمانة والأربعين حرامي، الذي يمثل إحدى أجمل حكايات ألف ليلة وليلة. ويحيط بالتمثال بالكامل للتأكيد على أهمية هذه القصة، ثم يواصل رحلته ليشمل تمثال معروف الرصافي، الذي أغنى هذا التراث بقيمة ثقافية كبيرة باعتباره شاعرًا معروفًا يمثل بغداد، عاصمة الثقافة.
ويواصل الشريط السينمائي رحلته باتجاه الجزء الخلفي من المدرسة المستنصرية، ويدخل من البوابة الخلفية ويخرج من البوابة الأمامية. وهو يروي لنا قصص الطلاب والمثقفين الذين عاشوا وتخرجوا من إحدى أقدم وأعرق المدارس في العالم الإسلامي والعربي.
بعد ذلك تبدأ الفترات الصعبة والدموية التي عاشها العراقيون عبر العصور المختلفة بالظهور، ويمثلها اللون الأحمر في العمل الفني. وينهي الشريط السينمائي رحلته أسفل نصب الحرية، ليبدأ قصة جديدة تحكي لنا عن معاناة العراقيين خلال الظروف الصعبة. وتتمثل بداية هذه القصة الجديدة في عودة السيادة إلى الأراضي العراقية، ممثلة في رتل من الدبابات التي تحمل الأعلام العراقية في الوقت الحاضر. ثم تستمر القصة الجديدة مع مرحلة إعادة الإعمار، ممثلة في نصب إعادة إعمار العراق الموجود على الجانب الأيسر من وسط العمل الفني. وبعد ذلك يعيد تمثال عباس بن فرناس ثقتنا بقدرة العراقيين على إعادة البناء من جديد، إذ يمثل بعضًا من أقدم الابتكارات والاختراعات التي أثرت في العالم في مجالات مختلفة.
وهكذا تحلق حمامات السلام من جديد فوق سماء بغداد، احتفالًا بالدورة الخامسة لمهرجان بغداد السينمائي الدولي، الذي كان بمثابة مرآة حقيقية تعكس تاريخ وقصة مدينة عريقة لم تنتهِ قصتها أبدًا.

ملاحظة: تجدر الإشارة إلى أن الفيلم الوثائقي عن الأوركسترا الوطنية العراقية شارك في الدورة الخامسة لمهرجان بغداد السينمائي الدولي، وحصل على رسالة شكر وتقدير من لجنة تحكيم المهرجان بعد فوزه بجائزة النجم الصاعد في المهرجان الدولي في كندا عام 2013، وبالجائزة الفضية في المهرجان الدولي في كاليفورنيا بالولايات المتحدة عام 2012.
