Qawana is an AI-assisted cinematic short film from Babylon Gate Films, created as an independent visual tribute inspired by the legacy of Iraqi music icon Nazem Al-Ghazali.
The film imagines the final morning of one of Iraq’s most enduring musical figures through a contemporary cinematic lens, combining historical atmosphere, directed visual storytelling and modern generative production techniques.
Creative Approach
Rather than treating AI as a visual effect on its own, the project was developed as a directed filmmaking workflow. Research, concept development, writing, shot design, visual generation, editing and final finishing were shaped into one coherent cinematic treatment.
